Lough Crew is about 10 mins drive from Whitaker Lodge. It’s  just outside Oldcastle in Co.Meath. It is an area of great historical importance. It is home to a group of megalithic tombs dating back to the 4th millennium BC, which sit on top of a number of hills.
Lough Crew Cairns and tombs are known together as Slieve na Calliagh and are the highest point in Meath. You can climb the hill up to the tombs and enjoy the fresh air and lovely views.
Parking is free and admission is free. You can get a tour guide in the summer months to explain the history of the cairns etc.

Also at this site there is a fantastic restaurant with plenty to choose from.
There is also a fantastic Adventure Centre with lots of activities and challenges for all the family.
